There are many tools to assess ASD in young children, but no single tool should be used as the basis for diagnosis. Diagnostic tools usually rely on two main sources of information—parents' or caregivers' descriptions of their child's development and a professional's observation of the child's behavior.
ABA therapy helps children on the autism spectrum by:
Increasing their social abilities like completing tasks, communicating, and learning new skills
Implementing maintenance behaviors like self-control and self-regulation
Teaching them to transfer learned behaviors to new environments
Modifying the learning environment to challenge them in certain scenarios
Reducing negative behaviors like self-harm
Early interventions occur at or before preschool age, as early as 2 or 3 years of age. In this period, a young child's brain is still forming, meaning it is more "plastic" or changeable than at older ages. Because of this plasticity, treatments have a better chance of being effective in the longer term. Early interventions not only give children the best start possible, but also the best chance of developing to their full potential.
Speech-language therapy addresses challenges with language and communication. It can help people with autism improve their verbal, nonverbal, and social communication. The overall goal is to help the person communicate in more useful and functional ways.
Occupational Therapy can make enormous improvements to a person’s everyday life. It aim to help people cope better with daily life by improving communication and learning , improving play and interactions with others, and minimising repetitive behaviours. It also find ways to support a person’s sensory processing needs by developing individual sensory strategies.
CBT can be beneficial for individuals with autism who experience anxiety, obsessive behaviors, or depression since it equips them with practical tools to manage emotions, reduce anxiety levels, and develop coping
Vocational training plays a crucial role in empowering individuals with autism to develop the necessary skills and pursue meaningful employment opportunities. These programs not only help individuals with autism gain valuable skills but also provide them with the support they need to thrive in the workplace.
The education programs developed to meet the educational and social needs of individuals who differ significantly from their peers with their developmental characteristics and educational qualifications, and the education carried out in an appropriate environment with expert personnel trained in the field of autism special education program.
Individuals are expected to be able to perform, maintain and develop activities of daily living, self-care, academics, reasoning and play.
Hippotherapy is, “a treatment strategy used by a licensed occupational, physical, or speech therapist to achieve an individual's goals through riding horseback”. It uses the characteristic movements of a horse to provide carefully graded motor and sensory input based on individual capabilities and needs.
